Let me first tell you where did I get this book from. Yes, I remember everything clearly. I got this amazing book as a prize during felicitation for Class 10 toppers (I was a topper back then *nostalgic*). I was too young to understand the book even though I read two to three stories in it. After a couple of years, I entered the world of engineering and I learnt about entrepreneurship, read stories about successful people and how they built an empire from scratch. That is when I realized the importance of the book. Hence, Follow Every Rainbow is a perfect source of inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs.

What does it contain?

Follow Every Rainbow is a book comprising interviews of 25 women entrepreneurs who built their strong businesses from scratch. It reflects the obstacles faced by female entrepreneurs and challenges thrown by family, society and the industries. Yet, these incredible women managed everything and faced every hurdle with confidence, without giving up.

These stories say one thing loud and clear. Women think and act differently, but they can be just as successful. What ‘success’ means, is something only you can decide.”

The book is divided into three sections: Lakshmi, Durga and Saraswati.

The author has written incredible intros of each section as shown below:

LAKSHMI

These are the ‘ghar ki lakshmis‘ who brought wealth and prosperity to the home – by co-opting family members into their business. Because success is not something you seek for the self, it is sweeter when shared with all.

DURGA

Circumstances forced these women to be enterprising, to fight for survival. They rose to the challenge, slaying demons within and without. Tapping into divine energy – or Shakti – which lies dormant in each of us.

SARASWATI

Armed with a professional education, these women are carving out an identity through entrepreneurship. They enjoy an unusual amount of freedom to be who they wish to be, beyond traditional roles.

Aren’t the words beautifully woven? Also, the way they have named the section appropriately in the names of the Goddesses.

Why Follow Every Rainbow is my favorite?

When you are reading the book, you find the author has provided English translations wherever necessary so that non-Hindi speakers are not left wondering what does a sentence means or what are they talking about.

Every woman mentioned in the book is unique in their own ways. They proved you don’t need a degree in business and management to build a successful business. All you need is determination, perseverance and hard work. It shows that a woman can do anything she puts her heart into. Overcoming the hurdles placed by the society for women is difficult. It takes tonnes of courage to break the cage that women are captured in. It’s so soothing to see so many women breaking the glass ceilings in the modern world and creating an identity of themselves.

Also, this book is perfect for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women.
